About Svindersvik
Svindersvik is one of Sweden’s oldest summer residences in rococo, located in Nacka outside Stockholm.
Svindersvik is an exclusive predecessor to today’s summer cottages, yet not large enough to be called a castle or manor. The main building in rococo with a symmetrical plan in French style was constructed for the wealthy merchant family Claes and Anna Johanna Grill, based on designs by architect Carl Hårleman.
Svindersvik served as a summer residence for various owners until the mid-20th century. It has never been rebuilt and is now considered one of Sweden’s best-preserved Rococo estates.
Svindersvik becomes part of Nordiska museet in 1949
In 1949, Svindersvik was transferred to the museum Nordiska Museet. This is one of the reasons why the estate remains so well-preserved and has retained its idyllic 18th-century character.
